Surrender (2026)
From The Stages of Becoming Series
Watercolor on Paper Framed 20.5” x 28.4”
Transformation begins with surrender.
In a quiet, all-white space, a young woman sits with her eyes closed, turning inward. She is reflecting on the things she must surrender—the beliefs, fears, attachments, expectations, and versions of herself that can no longer accompany her into what she is becoming.
Resting gently on her left shoulder is a caterpillar, a symbol of transformation in its earliest and most vulnerable stage. It represents the wisdom of honoring the process rather than rushing toward the outcome. Before the caterpillar can become a butterfly, it must surrender to a process it cannot fully see or control.
Surrender is not about defeat. It is about releasing the need to control every step of becoming. It is the willingness to trust that something within us is changing, even when we cannot yet see what we are becoming.
Sometimes the first step toward transformation is simply closing our eyes, becoming still, and asking ourselves:
What am I willing to surrender so that I can become who I am meant to be?
